Young Sounds UK
Charanga and Young Sounds UK have developed a dynamic new tool to support young people’s independent music learning and progression: the Individual Learning Plan, or ILP for short.
The interactive resource helps young people take the lead in their musical journeys by supporting their musical exploration, encouraging them to think about their musical interests and helping to spark conversations with their teachers.
The project is inspired by Young Sounds UK’s Furthering Talent programme, which supports students from low-income families whose whole-class music lessons are ending. The programme enables them to continue making music, with students receiving weekly instrumental tuition for at least two years and a learning plan to support them further.
Charanga strongly advocates personalised learning and gives children and young people wider options to progress their education beyond traditional vertical instrumental pathways.
We believe that helping more teachers adopt an individualised learning plan approach and giving them the practical tools in the ILP and our platform to do so will encourage more young people to sustain their practical interest in music well beyond school and into a lifetime of engagement with music and the arts.
